Domain protection migration
This guide only applies if the DNS for your domain name is currently pointing to ecommercedns.uk and you are not displaying your ShopWired website at your domain name's root domain.
Domain protection migration
ShopWired has partnered with Cloudflare a leading internet performance and security platform that provides advanced protection against DDoS attacks and malicious bots, whilst also ensuring more secure connections for websites.
We are now inviting ShopWired users to take advantage of this additional protection by making a change to their domain name's DNS records.
If your domain name's DNS record currently points directly to ecommercedns.uk, changing this record using the process described below will route traffic to your website through Cloudflare's advanced protection platform. Making this change will not adversely affect your website and won't cause any downtime.
The migration process is described below. If you need assistance in completing the migration contact support.
Step 1 - generating an SSL certificate
Adding the DNS record described below does not affect the visibility of your website or your existing SSL certificate
The first step of the migration process is to add a new DNS record to your domain name. This DNS record ensures that Cloudflare can issue an SSL certificate for your domain name. The required DNS record is unique to your ShopWired account and domain name.
To generate the DNS record:
1. Within ShopWired, navigate to Your account > Domain name
2. Locate the DNS migration section and select the begin migration option
3. When the page reloads a DNS record will be displayed
Host name | Record type | Value |
_acme-challenge.yourdomain.com | CNAME record | Displayed in the DNS migration section |
Login to the platform where your domain name's DNS is managed (this will usually be the same platform that you registered your domain name with) and create the new DNS record.
Wait for approximately 1 hour:
1. Return to the domain name page
2. Locate the DNS verification section, select the retry verification option and check that the page changes to display SSL CNAME record present. If the display does not change, check that the DNS record is correct and try again. If you continue to experience an issue, contact support.
3. Locate the SSL certificate section
4. Check that the section displays SSL live
5. Proceed to step 2 below
You must keep the SSL DNS record in your domain name's DNS settings, do not delete the record.
Step 2 - changing your domain name's DNS
Once you have confirmed that the SSL certificate has been generated:
1. Login to the platform where your domain name's DNS is managed
2. Locate the existing DNS record that points to ecommercedns.uk
3. Select to edit the record and change ecommercedns.uk to dns.shopwired.net
After approximately 1 hour, return to the domain name page and select the retry verification option in the DNS verification section. Check that the page changes to display CNAME record present and that your website is working normally.
Once the page displays CNAME record present the migration process has been successfully completed.
