Migrating from the Google feed app
Follow the steps below to move from the Google Feed to our Google Shopping app which uses Google’s API to quickly make updates to products when you change them in ShopWired.
For products that have already been sent to the Merchant Center, it is not necessary to delete them. When you select to send those products from the Google Shopping app to the Merchant Center, the previous listings will be moved automatically to being managed by the app.
Important!
You shouldn’t remove the feed until you have reached the step below that tells you to do so.
- Install the new Google Shopping app.
- Within the app, configure your settings. This includes configuring which products you want to send to Google. For a full explanation of the settings, please read the help guide here.
- In most circumstances the app can successfully take over the listings that were added to GMC by the feed, but in order for this to happen it is essential that the following settings in the Google Shopping app are configured correctly:
- How should product identifiers be formed?
- List variations as separate items
- How should variation identifiers be formed?
If the above settings are not configured correctly, when you select to send your products to the Merchant Center, it will create new products instead of taking over the listings that had previously been created. - Select to send your products to the Merchant Center
- Check your products within the Merchant Center and ensure that any products that should have been taken over by the Google Shopping app have been. Products that have been taken over by the app will say that the source is 'Content API'.
- Remove the feed from your Merchant Center account.
Below is an explanation of each setting and what option you should pick:
How should product identifiers be formed?
This setting did not exist in the Google Feed app as product identifiers were always sent as the product ID.
Therefore, in the Google Shopping app, you should select the ‘The ShopWired product ID’ option.
List variations as separate items
For this setting you should check what you had selected for the Google Feed app and then choose that option here.
So if you selected ‘yes’ in the Google Feed app, you should select ‘yes’ in the Google Shopping app.
If you selected ‘no’ in the Google Feed app, you should select ‘no’ in the Google Shopping app.
How should variation identifiers be formed?
For this setting you should check what option you selected for the setting 'Use variation SKU codes instead of IDs in variation listings' in the Google Feed app.
If you selected ‘yes’ to send the variation SKU code, you should select the option ‘The product ID and SKU code’ in the Google Shopping app.
If you selected ‘no’ and therefore sent the IDs instead of the SKU code for variation listings, then it will not be possible for the app to take over the products that you send to Google.
In this circumstance you should choose ‘The variation SKU code’ option if you have unique SKU codes for your variations or you should choose ‘The product ID and variation values’ if you do not have unique SKU codes.
You should still ensure that the setting for sending the product identifiers is set to ‘The ShopWired product ID’ option as any products without variations are still able to be taken over by the app.
When you send your products to Google, new products will be created for your variations, but the old products will be removed as soon as you delete the Google Feed as a source within GMC.
You should only remove the Google Feed app from within your ShopWired account if you are not using it to send your products to another service (such as Facebook, Pinterest, Doofinder, etc..)
