Verifying your sending emails

We use a third party service called Mandrill for the sending of all emails from websites on our platform.

Mandrill mandate that any email address used to send an email through their system is verified. For more information about why verification is necessary refer to this help guide.

Verification is a process which involves the steps described below.

Verification is not mandatory, but until you complete verification emails from your website (such as order confirmation emails) will send from a default email address (no-reply@ecommercemail.co) instead of your own email address.

Helpful tip!

Please note that where the instructions below reference yourdomain.com, this needs to be replaced with your actual domain name (e.g. shopwired.co.uk). Some DNS providers will automatically add yourdomain.com after the initial value.


Verifying your domain name

Step 1 (CNAME)

You need to add a DNS record to your domain name known as a CNAME record.

Type CNAME
Host mte1._domainkey.yourdomain.com
Points To/Value/Data dkim1.mandrillapp.com

Step 2 (CNAME)

You need to add a DNS record to your domain name known as a CNAME record.

Type CNAME
Host mte2._domainkey.yourdomain.com
Points To/Value/Data dkim2.mandrillapp.com

Step 3 (TXT)

You need to add a DNS record to your domain name known as a TXT record.

Type TXT
Host _dmarc.yourdomain.com
Points To/Value/Data v=DMARC1; p=none

Step 4 (Domain Ownership)

Domain ownership can be completed in two ways. The default method available through ShopWired is for you to add an additional TXT record to your domain name. As an alternative, if you have an email address @yourdomain.com then you can instead opt for a verification email to be sent to you.


DNS method

Select 'your account' from the left menu and then 'domain name'.

Scroll down to the 'your live domain name' section and click the 'view ownership instructions' link as shown in the screenshot below.

A popup window will appear containing the details of the DNS record. You will need to create this record in a similar way to the those that you have already created.

The popup window will display the value required for the TXT record (as indicated on the screenshot below).

Once you have added this record, close the popup window and click the 'verify' button.

If you experience difficulties in adding this record then you can choose to verify by email instead (as described below).


Verification email method

You need to generate a verification email to be sent to an email address at your domain name. Generation of the verification email is done through your ShopWired account.

In the domain ownership popup window click the link to proceed with email verification.

A new window will appear.

In the 'your email address' field enter the first part of your email address, e.g. info or sales.

Then click 'send'.

Once you click the send button a new window will appear. Keep this window open.

Go to your email inbox and check for an email from 'Mandrill Client Services'. Please note that this email may end up in your spam/junk folder so check there too.

It might take a few minutes for the email to come through to you.

Open the email and it will look like the below.

The part that you want is the URL which starts with http://mandrilapp.... - you'll need to highlight this and copy it to your computer's clipboard (CTRL+C on a Windows computer or CMD+C on an Apple computer).

Paste this into the 'enter the verification URL here' field

Click the 'save' button.

A confirmation message will then appear.

It can take up to 2 hours for the URL to be verified by our system. Please do not request a new verification email whilst waiting.
