Businesses located within a European Union (EU) member state are required to charge VAT on purchases of goods/services to consumers that reside within other EU member states (subject to certain exemptions or schemes).
If however your customers are located outside the EU, you are not usually required to charge VAT on the purchase.
ShopWired provides a system where for each delivery zone or delivery country you create through your account's shipping rate system you can specify whether VAT should be charged (or not).
To not charge VAT to customers that select delivery to a particular location (like the United States) you need to set the delivery zone as a 'non vat' delivery zone.
1. Navigate to the delivery settings page (select 'checkout' from the menu and then 'delivery rates').
2. Find the zone you want to change.
3. Untick the 'Should VAT be charged to customers that select this zone?' tick box.
4. Go to your website and make sure the new change is working. When selecting this delivery zone from the 'select your delivery destination' drop down list, VAT will be taken off the price of your products.
This setting will only take effect if you have selected in your account that you are VAT registered.
