Themes & content
You cannot use an EKM theme on ShopWired. The copyright for EKM standard/template themes belongs to EKM and also the EKM and ShopWired theme systems are significantly different. Unfortunately even if you have had EKM build a design for you this cannot be migrated (although we may be able to recreate the design for you, for an additional charge, please contact us to explore this option).
You'll therefore need to select a ShopWired theme for your online store and then you can customise it to your requirements.
Once you've selected and customised your theme you should then review and copy across your website's content pages (like 'about us' or 'terms and conditions').
Choosing, installing and customising a theme
To view available ShopWired themes select 'themes' and then 'available themes' from the account menu.
To view a demo of the theme, click on the individual theme and then click the demo link.
When browsing themes you should keep in mind that all of our themes can be completely customised and rebranded and that most of our themes are suitable for a wide variety of product types (not just the ones shown on the demos).
Once you've selected a theme you can click to install it in your account and begin customising it.
Migrating content and configuring menus
Content
Content that's present on your EKM website will need to be manually migrated to your ShopWired account. This should be an easy process - you'll just need to copy the content from your website and paste it into the page editor in your ShopWired account.
ShopWired pre-installs some content pages for you when your account is opened, but you can create as many text pages as you like. Read more details here.
Menus
Each ShopWired theme has a number of menus which allow your website's visitors to browse through the different text and information pages.
The links in these menus are controlled through ShopWired's link list feature. When you add a new page you should add it to at least one of your website's menus.
Blog posts
Unfortunately EKM do not provide an export system for blog posts that you may have created on your EKM account. If you want to transfer these posts to your ShopWired website you will need to do so manually (by creating the blog posts on your ShopWired account).
You'll need to make sure that you install the Blog app within your account first (the app is free to use) and then follow the instructions here to find out how to create blog posts.
If you don't have the time to transfer your blog posts, we can transfer them for you (we'd only make a charge to cover our time), for more information please contact us.
Category and product images
If you've already imported your products and categories after installing your theme you should check how your product and category images display. For product images check their display on the home page (as featured products) and category/search results pages and for categories how they display on the home page (as featured categories) and also if you have a parent/subcategory structure then how subcategory images displayed when viewing the parent category page.
Each ShopWired theme has a preset aspect ratio which determines the shape of the website 'container' that displays the image. For example a theme might have preset square aspect ratio for product images (where the width and height of the image are the same). If your product images are portait (the height is greater than the width) then you will probably find there is empty space either side of the iamge.
Theme image container setting
A setting can be enabled on your theme which will 'fill' the container for the image (so that you don't have empty space), it's useful if you have images that are different shapes (e.g. some square, some portait and some landscape) and helps to make them look more uniform.
For more details and instructions on how to activate the setting read here.
Changing the preset aspect ratio
It is always easier (and better practice) to change the theme's image container aspect ratio than it is to change all of your product or category images.
This means that if, for example, the theme has a preset square aspect ratio for product images and yours are portait we just make a slight adjustment so that the theme preset is portait.
Please contact us and we can make this adjustment for you free of charge.
