Transactions
A transaction on ShopWired Payments happens when a customer pays (or attempts) to pay you for an order through your website or where you key in their card details yourself by creating an admin order.
Transactions can therefore either be successful or unsuccessful.
Transactions are linked to orders, its not possible for a transaction to be created without there being a corresponding order (whether that order is complete/successful or incomplete/unsuccessful) is determined by the transaction status. When a transaction succeeds, the payment is received and the order is marked as completed/paid for.
Viewing transactions
Transactions can be viewed either from the 'view order' page that corresponds to the transaction, or alternatively from the transactions page.
The transactions page shows all the transactions on your account.
By default, the page will display only successful transactions but you can use the filters in the top right to switch to also show unsuccessful transactions.
Viewing a transaction
The full details of a transaction can be displayed by clicking on the specific transaction (either from the 'view order' page or the transactions page).
Most of the information displayed about a transaction will be self-explanatory but there are some important elements to note.
In the 'payment method' section you'll see some important information about the payment method used for the transaction and each payment method has a unique ID.
A payment method can be manually marked by you as 'fraudulent' if you suspect that the card has been used fraudulently (on the screenshot above you can do this by clicking the green flag). Marking the payment method as fraudulent will prevent it from being used on your website again.
At the bottom of the section the result of two anti-fraud checks are displayed. Whether or not a transaction is successful when one (or both) of these checks fails is determined by you in your account settings.
The CVC check makes sure that the 3 digit security code entered by the purchaser matches the 3 digits present on the back of the card. The postcode check makes sure that the billing address postcode (or zipcode) entered matches the cardholder's.
Capturing a transaction
Depending on your account settings, your account will either automatically capture funds from a cardholder's account to your ShopWired Payments account as soon as the transaction is placed or alternatively you'll have indicated that you want to manually capture funds at a separate time.
If your account is set to capture the funds later, you'll see this section displayed on the page.
Enter the amount you want to capture in the box and click the 'capture funds' button. PLEASE NOTE: You can only initiate one capture on a transaction, multiple captures are not permitted or available.
If you don't need to capture any funds and want to void the transaction completely, you should click the 'void transaction' button. PLEASE NOTE: This process is irreversible.
Important!
In most cases you'll need to capture the funds within 7 days of the transaction being initiated by the customer. If you need a longer period of time to capture funds, we'd recommend using ShopWired's pre-order app instead.
Refunds
For ShopWired Payments transactions, refunds can only be created on the transaction page. Click here for more details.
Payment timeline
At the bottom for each transaction a timeline is shown which displays 'key events' in a transaction's history, timeline events are always marked with the time/date that the event occurred. The timeline will include the following types of information:
- Transaction created
- Transaction captured/voided
- Refunds initiated
- Early fraud warnings
- Dispute events
