Creating delivery rates

Helpful tip!

Before you begin adding delivery rates to your zones you should first work out your full delivery structure. Click here to learn about delivery bands.

• Adding delivery rates
• Delivery rates settings
• Managing delivery rates
• Selecting a default delivery rate

Adding delivery rates

To add delivery rates to your delivery zones select Checkout > Delivery Rates from the menu and open the delivery zone you want to add rates to.

Then, select + Add A New Delivery Rate:

This form will then open:

Enter the name for your delivery rate. The name you enter will be displayed to your customers, so it is helpful to use a name descriptive of the delivery rate and the timeframe for expected delivery, e.g. “Standard Delivery (3-5 Days)”. You do not need to include the cost of the delivery in the name.

Under criteria choose either ‘By Price’ or ‘By Weight’:

If you choose price as your criteria, enter the price range in the from and to boxes:

Please note!

When creating a rate based on the value of products in the basket, you must enter the 'from' and 'to' value including VAT, regardless of your VAT settings.

If you choose weight as your criteria, enter the weight range in the from and to boxes:

In the 'range from' boxes you have the option to enter 0.00. In the 'range to' boxes you have the option to select unlimited to have the rate apply up to any value.

If you are basing your rate on weight, you also have the option to include the weight of the package:

The system will then take the package weight into consideration when deciding which rates are applicable to a customer’s basket. For example, if you entered a package weight of 0.15kg and had a maximum allowable weight of 1.65kg for a delivery rate, the customer’s basket then cannot exceed 1.50kg in order to be eligible for that rate.

Finally, enter the cost for the delivery rate, which is how much your customer would pay if they choose that rate. Enter '0.00' for delivery to be free for that rate.

If your account is set up as VAT registered, and you have ticked the 'Charge VAT' tick box for the delivery zone, you will also see an option asking you if the delivery rate is zero-rated for VAT:

Click here to learn more about what this means.

If you have the delivery rate exceptions app installed, you will be able to exclude products from a delivery rate or make the delivery rate only available for certain products:

Once you have finished inputting information for your delivery rate select save changes. The delivery rate will then be added to your store and available for customers to use.

Delivery rates settings

To set maximum weights for price based deliveries, maximum basket values for weight based deliveries and to determine if the order subtotals should include or exclude discounts you can alter your delivery rates settings.

To configure these settings select Settings in the top right corner of the ‘Delivery Rates’ page:

A box will then appear:

Once you have finished configuring your settings, select save changes.

Below is an explanation of each setting:

Calculating order totals with or without discounts

The first setting determines if order subtotals should be calculated with or without discounts when determining which delivery rates to show to customers.

By default, delivery rates will be determined based on the subtotal of the shopping basket including any discounts applied (such as voucher codes). For example, if you have a delivery rate that allows your customers to have free delivery if they spend over £99, and you have a customer who has £100 worth of products in their basket, they would qualify for the free delivery. But if they applied a voucher code to receive 10% off, their order total would then become less than £99, and they would no longer qualify for free delivery.

If you change the setting so that delivery rates are determined based on the subtotal of the shopping basket excluding any discounts, then the customer in the above scenario would still receive free delivery as the system would look at the total the customer is spending before any discounts are applied.

Select whichever setting you would like to be applied to your delivery rates.

Maximum weight for price based delivery rates

If you have created price based delivery rates, you might want to place weight limits on those delivery rates. For example, if you have a delivery rate that offers free delivery to basket totals over £100, you might not want to have this rate available if a customer’s basket contains some heavier items (as this would cost you more to ship). You could then place a weight limit on that delivery rate, so if a customer’s basket exceeds that limit the delivery rate would no longer be available to them.

To enable this setting, place a tick in the box beside ‘Yes’ under ‘Do you want to enter a maximum weight for price based delivery rates?’.

You will then be able to specify a maximum weight for each price based delivery rate. When creating a delivery rate when you choose ‘By Price’ as the criteria a new box will appear for you to input the maximum basket weight:

Leave this field blank if you don’t want to specify a maximum weight for the delivery rate.

Please note!

In order for this setting to work you will need to have entered weights for your products and product variations.

Maximum basket value for weight based delivery rates

If you have created weight based delivery rates, you might want to place basket value limits on those delivery rates. This means if a customer spends over the amount that you have set as the limit for the delivery rate, then that delivery rate will not show as an option for the customer to use.

To enable this setting, place a tick in the box beside ‘Yes’ under ‘Do you want to enter a maximum price for weight based delivery rates?’.

You will then be able to specify a maximum basket value for each weight based delivery rate. When creating a delivery rate when you choose ‘By Weight’ as the criteria a new box will appear for you to input the maximum basket value:

You can leave this field blank if you don’t want to specify a maximum basket value for the delivery rate.

How should delivery rates for multi-country delivery zones behave?

Use this setting to determine if you want delivery rates that have been configured for multi-country delivery zones (for example 'Rest of World' or 'European Countries') to be available when delivery rates have been configured for individual countries.

By default this will be set to Be used only when delivery rates aren't configured for a specific country. This means that when you configure delivery rates for a specific country, only those rates will be shown to customers.

If instead you would like the delivery rates you have configured for any multi-country delivery zones to be shown in addition to the delivery rates you have configured for individual countries, then change this setting to Be used in addition to delivery rates configured for a specific country.

Managing delivery rates

Once you have created delivery rates for a zone they will be listed for you to be able to manage:

Name tells you the name you have given the delivery rate. Click on the name to edit the delivery rate.

Basket Variable tells you the range that the delivery rate applies to.

Cost tells you the cost you set for customers to pay for that delivery rate.

Select the icon under Delete to delete a delivery rate.

Selecting a default delivery rate

By default, when a customer chooses a delivery zone the platform will pre-select the cheapest delivery option available to them based on the products in their basket. You can override this setting by selecting a different default delivery rate from the dropdown:

Please note: the default will only show if the delivery rate is applicable to the products the customer has in their basket.
